MINISTRIES · MINISTRY WITH THE DEAF

A church with a heart for the Deaf.

Deaf, Hard of Hearing, Deaf-Blind, and Deaf-low vision are welcomed here. Through qualified interpreters, the messages are interpreted into American Sign Language.

DEAF OUTREACH

The Deaf are among the most underserved groups globally, with 98% yet to hear John 3:16 in their heart language.

Many have never seen a Bible story signed to them or heard the Gospel explained. There's no complete Deaf Bible, and few churches reach out to the Deaf community — so the Deaf have no real access to hear the salvation message. Deaf people are often abandoned, neglected, and isolated: in their families, their workplaces, and sadly even within the church.

At Pure Heart we have a Ministry with the Deaf. Deaf, Hard of Hearing, Deaf-Blind, and Deaf-low vision are welcomed here. Through qualified interpreters the messages are interpreted into American Sign Language (ASL).

Our Ministry with the Deaf has a profound understanding of Deaf culture and is fluent in ASL as well as English — enabling not only outreach to the Deaf community, but to other churches interested in starting their own ministry. We know more than just ASL; we also know PSE and SEE. Using tactile sign language, or “live Braille,” the Deaf-Blind are served as well.

The ministry visits the Deaf in hospitals, jails, and prisons, and has taught sign language classes to those in the church so they can welcome new Deaf visitors and hold basic conversations. Deaf people often have other needs as well, so we try to connect them to the appropriate places so those needs can be met. We have a qualified CDI who answers questions during the service so the concepts are clear, and at times will relay-interpret to match the specific needs of an individual. All you have to do is ask. At Pure Heart, we truly have a "Heart for the Deaf."

Email the Deaf ministry at [email protected] and let us know which service or campus class you’d like to attend. Qualified ASL interpreters are available on request, and a CDI is present during services to keep concepts clear and relay-interpret to match individual needs. All you have to do is ask.

Yes. ASL-interpreted worship services are available on our Watch page at pureheart.org/watch — so you can engage with the message in your heart language from anywhere.

Those who are Deaf-Blind can participate fully through tactile sign language for the culturally Deaf-Blind, and “live Braille” for those who don’t use tactile sign. Transportation to services and to community Deaf-Blind events is available — please make arrangements in advance by email.

We offer free Deaf Bibles for anyone interested. There is no complete Christian ASL Bible yet, but we have the complete signed New Testament, and our ASL Bible study helps bridge the gap by teaching directly in ASL with discussion and Q&A.

We’d love to help. Whether you’ve been through an IPP or ITP program, are a native signer or K/CODA, or have advanced ASL skills, we offer free training and tutoring to integrate Scripture with accurate ASL translation. Email us to set up one-on-one mentoring.

Absolutely. We mentor and support local and distance churches in building a quality Deaf ministry — Deaf Culture included — so you can effectively reach the 98% of the Deaf community who are unsaved. Reach out and we’ll walk alongside you.
